BLOCKS

The original concept for the BLOCKS font was that each letter is a uniform rectangle with pieces cut out of it to form the letter. I had a good time messing around with it, and used it for several versions of my newsletter. I decided that instead of dragging around individual tiny pictures, I wanted to make it into an Actual font that you could type with for real. This was more complicated than I expected. I remade the letterforms at least 4 times in different programs, but I am happy ultimately with how they turned out. The version I've uploaded here includes lower-case characters, which I've never actually used in the newsletter because I'm not sure about them, but you can always caps lock if you don't like them.

Only Newsletter vol. 5 actually uses the font; all previous volumes use individual images for each letter that I arranged by hand. I am going to stop using it in the newsletter, because my printer doesn't like large opaque shapes and I am trying to design for my printer's strengths, rather than being frustrated by its weaknesses. I have some fun new heading fonts for Newsletter vol. 6.

I'm uploading the truetype file (.ttf) which you can put into your computer's font folder to use it as you would any font, and you can also edit it yourself if you wanted. I created and edited it with FontForge, a free and open source font editor with a bit of a learning curve, but I had a lot of fun poking around with it + would recommend it if you are interested in making fonts!
